Pakistani counterterrorism authorities have arrested Amin-ul-Haq, a senior al-Qaida leader known for his close ties to Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on the United States.
be dawn According to reports, the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered a case against Ul Haq for his involvement in plotting sabotage attacks against vital sites in the region.
“In a major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism, the CTD, in collaboration with intelligence agencies, successfully arrested Al Qaeda leader Amin-ul-Haq.” dawn A ministry spokesman said in a statement:
The statement further added that Ul Haq was arrested from Sarai Alamgir town in Gujarat district of Punjab.
The statement further said Amin-ul-Haq had been a close aide to Osama bin Laden since 1996 and had participated in numerous terrorist activities, noting that his name has been included in the UN’s global terrorist list.
“The arrest of Amin-ul-Haq marks a significant development in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Pakistan and around the world,” the CTD added.
The CTD also revealed that the arrested terrorists were planning a “large-scale terrorist operation” in the country.
Bin Laden was killed in 2011 during a US military raid on his hideout in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
