The eight-team tournament will be played in five consecutive T20I formats and will act as a warm-up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in October-November. India come into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw in the T20I series against South Africa, while Pakistan are coming into the encounter after a 0-3 loss at home to England in May.

With the T20 World Cup looming, coach Hamranpreet Kaul has her sights set on dominance in Asia.
At a largely monotonous captains’ joint press conference in Dambulla, dominated by Sri Lanka, one word from the Indian captain stood out. Asked about her expectations as a seven-time Women’s Asia Cup winner, Harmanpreet said: “The challenge is to continue doing the right things that we have done throughout the history of this tournament. We want to stick to our style of cricket, enjoy the game and continue to dominate other teams…”
But there was no hint of overconfidence in her remarks. It was simply a pointing out the fact that the Women’s Asia Cup is India’s forte. In the eight previous editions of the tournament, India have only failed to win it in 2018, when they suffered a thrilling defeat to Bangladesh in the final.
