Virginia Tech legend Mike Vick praises the Hokies heading into the 2024 season

There’s a lot of history surrounding the Virginia Tech football program, from Bruce Smith’s dominating run to Coach Frank Beamer’s historic run to the legendary run of quarterbacks in the early 2000s, and Mike Vick was a big part of it.

As quarterback, Vick led the Hokies to a 22-2 record, a Big East Championship and a Gator Bowl victory in 2000 before being selected first overall in the NFL Draft in 2001. Vick had a stellar and storied career in the NFL and to say he is beloved in Blacksburg, Virginia is an understatement.

Vick is just as good as he was at Virginia Tech and is a trusted voice when it comes to the future of the Virginia Tech program.

Vick is back in the Virginia Tech area as usual and had the opportunity to discuss his thoughts on the Virginia Tech program with Anthony Romano of WDBJ 7 Sports. Here is what Vick had to say:

“Virginia Tech is [good]Coach Pry has done a great job. The entire coaching staff [in] It ensures we stay on the path. [I] “We’re feeling good about this season, we have some great players coming back, we’re looking forward to some great quarterback play from Kyron Draughns and others, and I know our defense will be up to par.” [the] “The offense has made great strides and that’s what we want, but it takes all three phases of the game and most importantly, we’re getting better every day.”

Of course, it’s great to hear praise for Kyron Draughns from the legendary quarterback. There was a lot of hype around Draughns before this season, with CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli arguing that if Draughns improves in a few areas, he could help lead the Hokies to a competitive year in the ACC.

Obviously, the Chiron Drones have high hopes for the 2024 season, with viable ways to improve and a relatively easy schedule. Considering how much Mike Vick knows about the sport, it’s great to see others excited as well. This season could be special for the Hokies, and they could return to their glory days and start to become regular ACC contenders.
