America’s overwhelming victory: It’s been 42 years since Americans won all four major tournaments. In 1982, it was Craig Stadler (Masters), Tom Watson (U.S. Open, Open) and Raymond Floyd (PGA). This year, it was Scheffler (Masters), Schauffele (U.S. Open) and Bryson DeChambeau (U.S. Open).

Sometimes you win majors by solving the course, as Schauffele did at the Masters this year. Sometimes you win majors by standing up to your opponents, as Schauffele did at the PGA and DeChambeau did at the U.S. Open. And sometimes you win majors by just waiting, waiting for the right moment and getting on track.
In a week when Scotland threw everything it could at Royal Troon Golf Club – winds from three directions, driving rain, smoky haze and cold – Schauffele survived the elements and 158 other challengers to win the British Open.
Twelve players were within four strokes of the lead on Sunday and four of them held at least the sole lead at some point, but only Schauffele was able to finish last as Royal Troon beat them one after the other.
He recorded six birdies in 11 holes midway through the round, turning a three-shot deficit into a three-shot lead and etched his name in the Claret Jug long before the leaders approached the clubhouse on Saturday.
A memorable season: Schauffele, who is No. 2 in the Official World Golf Rankings, has 12 top 10 finishes this year and has never missed the cut. If it weren’t for Scheffler’s historic performance, Schauffele would have been the overwhelming favorite to win Player of the Year.
What’s next: Schauffele, an Olympic gold medalist, will be heading to Paris as part of the U.S. team.
🇫🇷 Pogacar dominates with third Tour win
Tadej Pogacar On Sunday, after three dominant weeks of cycling, he won the 111th Tour de France, becoming just the ninth rider in history to win the event three times.
Race summary: The 25-year-old Slovenian, who also won in 2020 and 2021, finished 6 minutes 17 seconds ahead of two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard to take the yellow jersey for the first time in the fourth stage (of 21 stages) and hold it ever since. Tour debutant Remco Evenepoel completed the podium.
-
Pogacar won the final three stages and six stages overall, becoming the most victorious Tour de France champion since Bernard Hinault won seven stages in 1979.
-
He was particularly dominant in the mountains, becoming the only rider, along with Gino Bartali in 1948, to win five mountain stages in a single Tour.
Unusual double: Pogacar is just the eighth cyclist to win the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France in the same year, and the first since 1998.

What to see: Pogacar will represent Slovenia at the Olympics but is “99% sure” he won’t take part in next month’s Vuelta a Espana – and if he changes his mind he has a chance to become the first rider to win all three stages of a Grand Tour in the same year.
