Long before I started SwimSwam, aka The Swimmers’ Circle, I was an Olympic aficionado. The more obscure the sport, the more I was into it. As a kid, I would spend hours glued to the TV during Olympic summers watching canoeing, cycling, rowing, gymnastics, handball, and whatever else was available on TV. Back then, there weren’t the on-demand options we have today.
When people ask me about my job covering the Olympics, I often reply, “It’s a lot of fun, except it means less viewership of the Olympics.” Other sports too.”
If you’re an avid fan like me, the schedule posted below will guide your life for the next two weeks. Designed for the press but useful for the general public, it contains a minute-by-minute schedule of the 32 sports of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Though the opening ceremony takes place on Friday, Olympic competition actually begins across France on Wednesday with the men’s rugby sevens and men’s football tournaments. Handball and archery get underway on Thursday. Competition is quieter on Friday for a stay along the Seine, but gets underway in earnest on Saturday with the medal competitions in judo, fencing, road cycling, skateboarding, swimming, diving, rugby sevens and shooting.
Initial medals will be awarded in either shooting or diving depending on how close the schedule is to the predetermined schedule.
Anyway, if you’re as crazy as I am, here’s your bible. Enjoy.
