The Paris 2024 Olympics will mark the soft launch of the arena today with eight men’s soccer matches and 12 men’s rugby sevens matches. The U.S. men’s national soccer and rugby teams will face host France, and the U.S. men’s rugby sevens team will play two matches.
Meanwhile, the U.S. men’s gymnastics team is podium training and the U.S. men’s basketball team is practicing ahead of its opener on Sunday.

Olympic Rugby Sevens: Argentina overpowers Kenya, USA starts first
Argentina won the second match of the men’s rugby sevens tournament, overcoming an early 7-0 deficit with an explosive second half to win 31-12.
The United States will be rooting for its own team in Paris as the men’s rugby sevens team next takes on host France.
Olympic men’s soccer: Spain breaks tie with Uzbekistan
Sergio Gomez broke the tie in the 62nd minute with an assist from Juan Miranda to put Spain up 2-1. It was Gomez’s third shot on goal.
Olympic Men’s Soccer: Morocco extends lead
Morocco scored again against Argentina with a penalty kick from Soufiane Rahimi, which came in the 49th minute to give Morocco a 2-0 lead, with Argentina yet to take a shot on goal.
Olympic Rugby Sevens: Australia beats Samoa
In the men’s Pool B match, Australia trailed 7-0 and then scored 21 points to beat Samoa 21-14.
Up next are Argentina vs Kenya and USA vs France at 10:30 a.m. ET. A total of 12 men’s rugby sevens matches are scheduled for today.
Olympic men’s soccer: Morocco leads at halftime, Spain and Uzbekistan tied
Morocco opened the scoring against Argentina just before the end of the first half, with Sofiane Rahimi scoring in the 45th minute, the first shot on goal for either team.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan equalised with Spain through a penalty from Eldor Shomurodov in the 45th minute. The teams went into halftime tied at 1-1.
Olympic Rugby Sevens Begins
Australia and Samoa are gearing up to start the second half of their first men’s rugby sevens match in Paris, with the teams tied at 7-7 after Australia overcame a 7-0 deficit.
Olympic men’s soccer: Argentina vs Morocco still scoreless
Argentina and Morocco are locked in a fierce battle in their opening match of Group B. Both teams are relying on their defense to keep the other away from the goal, with neither team having a shot on goal after 39 minutes.
Olympic Men’s Soccer: Spain takes lead over Uzbekistan
Spain opened their Group C match against Uzbekistan by scoring the opening goal, with Marc Pabil scoring in the 29th minute after receiving a pass from Abel Ruiz, Spain’s first goal of the Olympic Games and giving them a 1-0 lead.

No. The Argentine global star will not be playing in Paris, having just finished the Copa America, where Argentina beat Colombia in extra time and Messi was injured. Messi won gold with Argentina at the 2008 Beijing Games.

USMNT players to watch
Some of the USMNT’s best players are old enough to play in the Olympics, but it will be tough to convince clubs to allow their stars to play in a tournament where they will almost certainly miss part of the preseason due to the risk of injury.
But the Olympics could provide valuable experience for some of the rising stars of the U.S. men’s soccer national team, which includes Gianluca Busio and Tanner Tessman, who led Venezia to promotion to Italy’s Serie A.
