The Paris 2024 Olympics begin today with their first medal events. U.S. superstar swimmer Katie Ledecky will be looking to win her first medal of the Games in the 400-meter freestyle, while seven-time Olympic gold medalist Caleb Dressel will compete in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Jagger Eaton and his U.S. skateboarding teammates will compete in the men’s street final.

Here are highlights from the Olympics schedule (all times Eastern): Peacock will be streaming all the sports and events happening in Paris live.
- swimming Preliminaries will begin at 5 a.m. The finals of the men’s and women’s 400-meter freestyle and the men’s and women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay will begin at approximately 2:40 p.m. The finals will be broadcast on NBC. Katie Ledecky is looking to win her first medal of the Games.
- Qualifications Men’s Gymnastics The NBA is divided into three subdivisions, with the first subdivision starting at 5:00 AM, the second subdivision starting at 9:30 AM, and the third subdivision starting at 2:00 PM. The United States is in subdivision 1. NBC will broadcast the preliminaries.
- Men’s Street Final skateboard Originally scheduled for 11 a.m., light rain fell Saturday morning and was forecast to continue throughout the day, leading organizers to decide to postpone the men’s street skateboarding competition until Monday.
- Men’s Basketball Four group stage matches will be played throughout the day.
- Men’s Soccer Eight group stage matches will be played throughout the day, including the match against the United States.

Maria Laborde wins opening match in 48kg judo
In the opening match of the women’s 48 kg judo competition, Maria Laborde of the United States defeated China’s Guo Zongying 10-0. Laborde scored a waza-ari 1 minute, 7 seconds into the match to secure an easy victory. Laborde advanced to the round of 16 and will face Italy’s Assunta Scuoto later Saturday.
U.S. mixed badminton pair loses first match to China
The mixed doubles team of Vinson Qiu and Jenny Gui lost 2-0 (21-11, 21-14) to China’s Feng Yan Jie and Huang Dong Ping in the opening match of the 2024 Olympics at La Chapelle Arena in Paris.
Chiu and Ngai will continue their pool play on Sunday against Malaysia’s Tan Jie Cheng and Yi Wei Toh.
Olympic Gymnastics Today: What to Look Out For
The U.S. men will be looking to win their first Olympic team medal in 16 years. The U.S. will begin qualifying in Subdivision 1, which includes athletes from Germany, Great Britain, Canada and other countries whose entire teams were not able to qualify. The U.S.’s path to winning an Olympic medal in the team event was made easier after the European Gymnastics Union voted against allowing athletes from Russia and Belarus to return to international competition.
