In her petition, Maneka Gandhi alleged that Nishad had suppressed information about his criminal history in the affidavit he filed while filing his candidacy for the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Maneka Gandhi has filed a case in the Allahabad High Court challenging the recent election of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Buar Nishad from the Sultanpur Assembly constituency.
Maneka Gandhi, who lost to Nishad by a margin of 43,174 votes, filed an election petition at the court registry on Saturday.
The petition is likely to be heard by a Lucknow court on July 30.
In the petition, Maneka Gandhi alleged that Nishad had suppressed information about his criminal history in an affidavit he filed when filing for candidacy in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
It was alleged that 12 criminal cases were pending against Nishad, but he provided information about only eight cases in his election affidavit.
The petition alleged that Nishad had concealed information about criminal cases from Pipraich and Balharganj police stations in Gorakhpur district.
The petition urged the high court to set aside Nishad’s election and declare Maneka Gandhi as the winning candidate.
