Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, currently serving time in a Rawalpindi prison, has reportedly decided to run for chancellor of Oxford University. Telegraph “Despite serving a 10-year prison sentence, I will participate in the online vote,” Khan said.

Khan will be jailed until August 2023. Various lawsuits filed A string of cases were filed against him, including the Toshkana case and the Code case.

What is this role, and what is Khan’s relationship with the university?

Oxford University in England is believed to have been teaching in some capacity since 1096. It grew to be one of the most prestigious universities in the world. The position of rector wasn’t created until about 100 years later. According to the university’s website, “By 1201, the university was led by the Magister Scholarum Oxony, who was subsequently granted the title of rector in 1214.”

Essentially, the president serves as a ceremonial head with no executive responsibilities, although his or her role includes providing “supportive and helpful advice and guidance to the University,” presiding over certain official events, and helping to resolve disputes among the Board of Trustees.

The chancellor does not have to live in Oxford but must be contactable and available throughout the year. The position is unsalary, but all travel and expenses associated with the job will be covered, the university’s website says.

Why is there an election taking place for the post of Chancellor of Oxford University?

Former Chancellor of the Exchequer Christopher Patten, 80, recently retired from his position. He served as Chancellor for almost 20 years and was a Conservative MP before that. He was appointed Governor of Hong Kong in 1992, a position he held until 1997, overseeing Hong Kong’s liberation from British rule and its return to China. In 2006, he was appointed co-chair of the British India Roundtable, which was set up to build closer ties.

For the first time, elections will be held online. Candidates must meet the following criteria:

2. A deep appreciation for the University’s research and academic mission, its global community, and its ambition to remain a world-class research and teaching university.

3. Ability and willingness to enhance the reputation of the University locally, nationally and internationally.

The president is elected by a conference made up of all former students of the university who have received degrees other than honorary degrees.

The other body that votes in the election is called the Congregation. This is the sovereign body of the University, which acts as the “parliament” of the University and has a membership of over 5,000 people, including academic staff, university deans and other board members, senior researchers, computer, library and administrative staff.

“I think it was the best experience for me. I was playing cricket at the time and I was already a Test player, but at the same time, it was important to me to get an education, so Oxford offered me the best balance – I got a top-class education whilst playing top-class cricket. And actually my experience at Oxford has really helped me later in life,” he told the student newspaper. Oxford Student In 2007.

Syed Zulfi Bukhari, Khan’s international media adviser, said: Telegraph“Imran Khan will run for chancellor of Oxford University because there is public opinion that he should run.”
