Immediately after former US President Donald Trump made a final appeal to an audience of Christian conservatives, saying that if they voted for him on Election Day they would no longer be obligated to vote again, the campaign of Vice President and presidential candidate Kamala Harris fired back. According to a report by ABC News, the campaign accused Trump of trying to undermine democracy.
Harris’ campaign criticized Trump for suggesting that Christians would not have to vote again if they voted once, which they said was an attempt by Trump to “end democracy.”
“I don’t care how, but you’ve got to go out and vote. Christians, just go out and vote this one time. You don’t have to vote anymore. Four more years, you know? Problem solved,” Trump said, according to ABC News.
Expressing his love for Christians and claiming to be a Christian himself, Trump reiterated, “Christians, I love you. I am a Christian. I love you. Get out and vote. In four years, you won’t have to vote anymore. Things will be better so that you don’t have to vote.”

In response, James Singer, a spokesman for Harris’ presidential campaign, said, “When Vice President Harris says this election is about freedom, she means it. Our democracy is under attack by a criminal, Donald Trump.”
“Donald Trump is taking America backwards and leading us towards a reign of hate, chaos and fear. This November, America will unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris and stop Trump,” Singer added.
Trump also expressed gratitude for the prayers that he said saved his life during an assassination attempt two weeks ago. “I want to say to each and every one of you believers in this room, thank you for your prayers and your incredible support. I am so grateful. Something was working, we know it. Something was working. It is because of the power of prayer and the grace of Almighty God that I stand before you tonight,” he said.
Trump’s comments were compared to previous comments about Harris being a possible dictator and not leaving the White House. He also stepped up his attacks on Harris during a speech at the Turning Point USA Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, alleging that she harbors negative feelings toward Jews and Israel. Trump criticized Harris for not attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent address to Congress, claiming that “she doesn’t like Jews and she doesn’t like Israel,” even though Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, is Jewish.
In his speech on Friday, Trump asked the audience, “Does everyone here understand that the far-left ideology that Kamala espouses is truly militantly hostile to Americans of faith?” Trump called Harris “the most incompetent, unpopular, far-left vice president in the history of the United States” and called her a “useless person.”
Harris’ campaign was quick to respond to Trump’s comments, issuing a statement criticizing her speech: “Donald Trump has insulted the faith of Jewish and Catholic Americans, lied (again) about the election, bragged about repealing Roe, proposed billions of dollars in cuts to the education budget, announced he would appoint more extremist judges, revealed his plans to install more criminals like himself in his second term, and attacked the legitimate vote.”
