Thousands of Taylor Swift fans tuned in to watch her Eras Tour for free in Munich, Germany.

The Swifties set up shop Saturday morning on Olympiaburg Hill, a grassy observation deck southeast of the stadium that offers a direct, bird’s-eye view of the performance. Known as “Taylor-gating,” this allowed fans to bring their own umbrellas or blankets and watch the entire show without having to shell out hundreds of dollars for bejeweled passes.

Unlike other stadiums, a 200-foot-tall hill overlooks the entire arena, giving Swifties who couldn’t buy tickets a sneak peek at the making of the three-hour-plus show. An X/Twitter video shows every inch of the lawn.

According to the Olympiapark website, “From the top, you’ll enjoy spectacular views over the Olympic Park, Munich and the Alps. But for decades Olympic Hill has also been a popular spot to enjoy free open-air concerts.”

‘Feeling incredibly welcome’: Swifties brave hot temperatures to see Erastour stars perform in Munich

As fans danced inside the roofless Olympiastadion, temperatures rose into the high 80s Fahrenheit, and misters sprayed people seated on the floor. A heat alert was lifted in Munich, Germany, just before Swift took the stage. The alert lasted from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to AccuWeather.

“This is my first show ever playing in Munich,” Swift told a “Lover”-era crowd of 74,000 inside the arena, “and I want to say thank you so much for coming out tonight and spending time with me and letting me have a Saturday night.”

she said, referring to the thousands of fans listening outside.

“We are so grateful that people came out to the park outside the stadium and we plan to work hard all night to give back to everyone,” she said.

As the world’s best athletes compete in Paris, Swift will perform her first two sold-out shows at the Olympic Stadium, 530 miles away from the 2024 Summer Olympics. The Olympic Stadium was built for the 1972 Summer Olympics and hosted 80,000 spectators for track and field events.
