Who will be Team USA’s biggest rival for the team gold medal?
The U.S. team will enter as the gold medal favorites, and for the first time in Olympic history, two all-around Olympic gold medalists, Suni Lee (2020) and Simone Biles (2016), will compete on the same team.
Italy placed second to the United States in the qualifying rounds but finished a distant second in the artistic gymnastics competition, receiving more than five points. Italy has not won an Olympic gymnastics team medal since 1928.
Jade Carey said she was not feeling well, while Biles appears to be suffering from an injury to her lower left leg. still They dominated qualifying and if they can repeat that performance, and Carey is in good form today, they will be very tough to beat.
China and Brazil are also seen as threats. China last won a team gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Brazil has never won an Olympic team medal, but all-around star Rebecca Andrade leads the team.
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), the Tokyo Olympic team champions, will not compete in Paris due to Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Until Biles withdrew from the team event, the U.S. team was the favorite to win in Tokyo.
The last time China won a team gold medal was at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Jade Carey is battling illness. How is she doing now?
The 24-year-old gymnast told Olympics.com that an unknown illness caused her to fall during the floor exercise in which she won gold in Tokyo.
“I’ve been feeling sick for the past few days and I haven’t been able to eat anything,” she said.
She continued, “I just had no energy today and I wasn’t sure what was going on in my head, so I just wanted people to know that. I just wanted people to know that something wasn’t right.”
Carrie’s mother reported on TODAY on July 28, saying, “Carrie is feeling much better today. She’s staying hydrated, eating, and is ready to go.”
Carey will not have a chance to defend her gold medal in the floor exercise, but she has qualified for the women’s vault final.

NBC commentator Laurie Hernandez said Simone Biles is “feeling great” and ready to perform in the team final.
NBC Olympic gymnastics commentator Laurie Hernandez said on Today this morning that she’d heard the U.S. team’s practice yesterday was “totally normal” amid concerns over Simone Biles’ calf and Jade Carey’s health.
Biles appeared to be battling a low left leg injury during qualifying on Sunday, while Carey struggled on her signature event, floor exercise, and later said she was not feeling well. Hernandez, who was part of the 2016 U.S. Olympic team that won gold in Rio de Janeiro, said she had no concerns heading into today’s team final.
“We’re hearing that practice yesterday was completely normal, which is exactly what we wanted to hear,” she said. “I know there was some concern and speculation about Simone’s calf after watching the preliminaries, but what we’re hearing is that she’s OK. She’ll go out there and do what we know Simone Biles does best.”
Team USA enters the event as the favorite to win the team title.
“This team has been very brave and has said time and time again that they are going for the gold medal and I think we’re going to see that happen later today,” she said.
A strong start on the first event, vault, will be key: Biles recorded the highest score of any gymnast on vault (15.8) in the preliminary round.
“We want confidence, we want to minimize the shaking and hopefully not lose points on the landing,” Hernandez said.

Which gymnasts from Team USA will compete in the finals?
All of Team USA’s big names will work together to try to win their first team gold medal in eight years.
Participants include Simone Biles, Jordan Childs, Jade Carey and Suni Lee, who competed at the Tokyo Olympics.
Olympic rules limit a team to three athletes in each event, and 16-year-old rookie Hezly Rivera, who qualified for the team finals, failed to place in the top three in any event during the preliminary rounds.
A rule introduced at the 2004 Olympics puts the pressure on everyone because bad points can’t be subtracted from a team’s overall score. This means if someone falls or performs poorly, the point is added to the overall score, and the other team can win if all the skaters perform a clean routine.
The final will feature a total of 12 routines per team (three athletes in each of the four events).
