Calling all basketball and pickleball lovers…a new social sports complex is opening in the City of Brotherly Love next year.
Good City Studio and Vero Capital, the firms behind the award-winning Filter Club and Equinox Hotels, have announced plans to develop Ballers Philly, a first-of-its-kind ballroom sports venue, within the historic Turbine Hall at The Battery in Fishtown.
“The property will offer the luxury amenities of a members-only club without the membership requirement,” the developers said in a news release.
Scheduled to open to the public in early 2025, Ballers aims to become a community hub for sports enthusiasts of all ages.
The venue will feature the city’s first dedicated indoor pickleball and padel courts, a state-of-the-art indoor golf centre, a multi-purpose grass playing field and squash courts.
Additionally, there are private lockers and showers, an infrared sauna, cold plunge tanks and compression therapy.
There will also be an upscale sports bar and grill for those who get hungry.
“With our first Ballers location, we have the opportunity to create one of the most iconic sports venues in the nation,” says Good City co-founder Amanda Potter. “Not only will our design be a fitting complement to Turbine Hall’s stunning space, but the programming and atmosphere we create at each Ballers location will drive the experience and encourage patrons to mingle and socialize before, during and after play.”
Ballers Philly’s grand opening is scheduled for early next year, followed by a national expansion in cities including New York, Boston, Dallas and San Francisco.
World-renowned athletes, including tennis legends Andre Agassi and Kim Clijsters and 76ers All-Star Tyrese Maxey, have invested in both the Philadelphia Ballers facilities and their parent management company.
Leading up to its opening, Ballers Philly will be hosting an outdoor pop-up store from now through November, where customers can enjoy three outdoor pickleball courts and Ballers-branded merchandise for sale.
“We truly believe in Philadelphia, and Ballers will bring together two of Philadelphia’s favorite things – sports and socializing – under one roof,” said Gutstadt. “With the opening of Ballers, we hope to attract even more tenants and retailers who share our vision and further energize The Battery.”
