The Oklahoma Sooners lost 26-14 to the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday, moving their losses to 1-4 in SEC play and 4-4 overall on the 2024 season.
Brent Venables and the Sooners are aiming for a two-win schedule to advance to a bowl game and extend a winning streak that began in 1999.
There are only four games left, but with Maine, Missouri, Alabama, and LSU still on the schedule, getting to 6-6 will be a tough task. This week’s main match should be easy, but a sixth win may be difficult.
ESPN has released its latest bowl predictions (ESPN+). Staff writers Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach created picks for all December and January bowl matchups.
Coach Schlabach is missing bowls completely to the Sooners, but Coach Bonagura still has a little faith in Oklahoma. He predicts OU will play in the Union Home Mortgage Gasparilla Bowl on Friday, Dec. 20. Oklahoma’s expected opponent is the Boston College Eagles.
The Gasparilla Bowl will be held at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Georgia Tech defeated UCF in the game a year ago.
The University of Oklahoma and Boston University have met twice so far, with the Sooners winning both games and shutting out the Eagles. OU won 46-0 in Boston in 1949 and returned home in 1950 to beat Norman 28-0.
Missing the bowl game entirely would be devastating for Oklahoma, especially considering they started the season 4-1. They will look to get back on track when they host Maine in Norman on Saturday.
