Former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten joined the Pakistan men’s team as limited-overs coach, but many in the Indian cricket fraternity were not happy. Kirsten was the coach of Team India when MS Dhoni’s side won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2011. Many fans and former Indian cricketers were not happy to see Kirsten cross the border and join the team. In fact, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh had even asked him to return to the Indian team as head coach. Now that Kirsten has resigned as Pakistan national team coach, Harbhajan has had the “last laugh”.
“Don’t waste your time there, Gary. Please come back to Coach Team India. Gary Karsten is one of those rare gems. A great coach, mentor and friend to the entire 1202 team. 2011 This is our coach who won the 2024 World Cup. Special ‘Man Gary @Gary_Kisten,’ Harbhajan Singh wrote in a post on X after Pakistan’s early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup.

When Kirsten submitted her resignation as Pakistan’s white-ball coach, one fan reminded everyone of the warning Harbhajan had given Kirsten after taking over.
Harbhajan also reacted to the ‘reminder’ and shared some laughing emojis.

A lot of changes have taken place in the Pakistan team in recent weeks. After Pakistan lost to England in the first Test in Multan, the PCB decided to change the entire selection committee. Pakistan won the next two matches, but questions still remain about how the board will function. Mohammad Rizwan was also appointed as the team’s new white-ball captain, replacing Babar Azam, a change that also came into effect after Kirsten’s resignation.
