Former Ipswich defender Mick Mills believes the club’s next league game against Leicester City is a “must win” game.
Kieran McKenna’s side are yet to win in the Premier League this season.
Speaking on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Final Whistle, Mills said: “Our ultimate aim this season is to stay at least three teams and if we can achieve that then it will be a great season.”
“I would put Leicester as one of the teams that could probably finish at the top. If we do well and get the wins we need, we’ll be close to within two points of Leicester. It’s within reach and it’s where we have to go.”
“There are a lot of groups of clubs that we definitely have to get close to. There are eight or nine teams at the moment who are not in the relegation battle. They are in a different world.
“But there are teams who are going to go there and Leicester are one of them. That’s why it’s important.”
Unlike the Tractor Boys, who have a week to prepare before a game, Leicester first face Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup, but Mills believes the weekend league game will be similar to a cup match. are.
“Next week is like a cup match between the two teams. We need a different pot of food to ensure we win,” he said.
“Let’s go out there and really beat them, beat them well and make sure we get the three points and bring them closer to us.
“We have to make sure we’re better than the team enough to sustain us. It’s going to be a real dogfight.”
