COLUMBUS, Ind. — Ivy Tech Community College Columbus will welcome local authors to a series of events and writing opportunities in Moravec Hall in recognition of National Novel Writing Month this November.

A challenge to empower and encourage writers of all experience levels, National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) helps you focus on writing an entire 50,000-word novel in just one month. Ivy Tech Columbus is participating in this month-long challenge by providing activities and spaces for writers to focus on their work. Viewpoint Books and Lucabe Coffee Co. sponsor the university event.

“As someone who previously participated in NaNoWriMo, it’s great to have a place where I can write without distractions, where others can encourage me and give me tips,” said Stephen Combs, president of Ivy Tech Columbus. “I can show you how useful something is.” “We invite writers to take advantage of the inspiration available in our wonderful Moravec Hall campus building and the opportunities to share and discuss their work with other authors throughout the month.”

NaNoWriMo activities at Ivy Tech Columbus include a kickoff event in Moravec Hall on November 1 from 5-6 p.m., followed by a write-in period in the building from 6-10 p.m. . The university will also host other events throughout the month. Typing, how to use or stay away from technology, presentations by local authors. Moravec Hall will be open at designated times throughout November, including designated times each weekend, for community members to come and write.
