Recently, the National Assembly and the Senate passed a bill with a two-thirds majority setting the term of office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan to three years, ARY News reported.
In an interaction with reporters and lawyers at a makeshift courtroom in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail on Tuesday, the former chief minister claimed that he was being treated worse than animals in prison.
“I want to say unequivocally that those who voted for the 26th Amendment betrayed Pakistan by destroying the very foundations of our Constitution,” he said in a post on Wednesday.

(Told reporters and lawyers in a makeshift courtroom in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail):

I would like to state unequivocally that those who voted in favor of the Article 26 constitutional amendment have betrayed Pakistan by destroying the very foundations of our country.

Mr Khan insisted he would staunchly defend Pakistan’s “true freedom” despite attempts to break his spirit through “torture”.
“I was tortured by being locked in a cage and treated worse than an animal. It was an extremely despicable act. The electricity to my cell was cut off for five days and I was kept in complete darkness. I was kept in solitary confinement for 10 days.” For several weeks, visits from my family, doctors and lawyers were blocked, hoping to break me out of this torture and suffering. However, I will stand firm for the true freedom of the people of Pakistan.”
Imran Khan said Nawaz Sharif was not worried about Pakistan, he just looted it.
“Nawaz Sharif is not worried about the future of Pakistan. He also does not have the interests of the Pakistani people at heart as he hides his wealth and properties abroad. They are not coming to Pakistan. only to plunder and plunder, and then return to Pakistan.”He has visited Britain 22 times during his tenure as Prime Minister, and is currently on his 12th visit. [cricket terminology – sidelined] So he returned to his homeland again,” he said.
The PTI founder said he was concerned about the abduction of his “key man” Intazar Panjuta.
“I am deeply concerned about the abduction of Intazal Panjuta. This enforced disappearance is the result of hostility against me personally. There is complete illegality in this country. 21 days since the abduction of my central figure. “What is his crime?” It’s a shame that even the courts are silent,” he said.
Under a constitutional amendment, the term of office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan is set at three years. A 12-member parliamentary committee will nominate Pakistan’s new chief justice from among the three most senior judges, ARY News reports.
According to the report, a committee of eight MPs and four senators will recommend the name to the prime minister, who will send it to the president for final approval.
The Judiciary Commission of Pakistan is headed by the Chief Justice and comprises three senior judges, two members each of the National Assembly and the Senate, the federal law minister, the attorney general, and nominees from the Bar Council of Pakistan. According to ARY News, those with less than 15 years of experience in the Supreme Court will be responsible for the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court. (Ani)
