Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs apologizes to reporter for heated confrontation over social media post after loss to 49ers

Trevon Diggs and Mike Leslie are both good guys.

A Dallas Cowboys cornerback and a WFAA reporter cleared the air Wednesday after a violent confrontation outside the Levi’s Stadium locker room following the team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

And naturally, Diggs shows up with a special gift for Leslie to help solve the case.

Shortly after the 49ers defeated the Cowboys 30-24 on Sunday night, Diggs came out of the locker room and confronted Leslie over a post he had published on social media during the game. Diggs must have noticed the post as soon as he entered the locker room, because he was still wearing pads when he came out with the assault.

The issue stemmed from 49ers tight end George Kittle cheering loudly during the game. Diggs, who was playing defense elsewhere on the play, didn’t seem to notice Kittle and inadvertently cleared the way to the 1-yard line.

Leslie asked in the post what Diggs was doing while playing, which made Diggs angry.

“Is that what you got out of that whole play?” Diggs angrily asked Leslie in front of other reporters near the locker room door. “What did you get out of that? Is that what you got out of that whole play?”

“We can talk more about that,” Leslie replied.

“You can talk about Deeds Nat,” Diggs yelled back before heading back to the locker room.

Diggs later said on Micah Parsons’ podcast that he was “emotional” at that moment and said he was overcome with “a lot of emotions” after the game.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was also asked about the incident on Tuesday.

“I think we have to be better in that moment. I always talk about continuing to take the high road,” McCarthy said, via ESPN. “That’s part of our responsibility in this business. But I’m not ignorant or naive about the fact that this generation is part of the world they live in, the social media world. You have to manage it. It’s part of being a professional athlete and it’s part of representing this organization well.”

Diggs had five total tackles in the loss to the 49ers, his best performance in a game in over a month. He has 23 tackles and one interception this season. The Cowboys are currently 3-4 heading into Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.

There are a number of issues that the Cowboys need to address to get their season back on track, but Diggs’ relationship with Leslie and other local media covering the team appears to be on good terms again.
