USWNT vs. Argentina score: Naomi Girma’s surprise leads to another friendly win for U.S. Soccer

The U.S. women’s national team wrapped up its October schedule with a 3-0 win over Argentina on Wednesday at Linn Family Stadium in Louisville. Defender Naomi Girma’s surprise two goals played an important role in the victory.

The hosts were a little slow to break through Argentina’s low defensive block, but by the 30th minute, the USWNT had taken full control. The winning goal came moments later thanks to Dilma, who scored her first international goal with a header from close range in the 37th minute. The USWNT led 2-0 by the 44th point, when Aldana Cometti scored an own goal off a corner kick, and Guima converted the chance.

In the second half, Girma picked up where he left off, scoring his second goal in the 49th minute. This goal, which she scored with a header after receiving a pass in the penalty area from Alyssa Maronson, who also recorded an assist in her first cap, came three days after Emma Sears scored the same goal.

Mallonson was one of three players to earn their first caps on Wednesday, alongside Mandy Haught and Eva Gaetino, continuing the spirit of experimentation that has defined head coach Emma Hayes’ approach this month. Meanwhile, Hayley Mace and Ashley Sanchez played their first international matches in over a year.

The result extends the USWNT’s undefeated streak under Hayes to 15 games, which includes a gold medal at the Paris Olympics this summer. The USWNT will have a chance to extend that extension in the coming weeks when they play in England on Nov. 30 and the Netherlands on Dec. 3.
