HONG KONG, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) — President of Xinhua News Agency Fu Hua met with various sectors in Hong Kong including education, culture and publishing, during his visit to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and has reached consensuses with them respectively on further deepening cooperation.

Xinhua on Wednesday signed a memorandum of cooperation with the University of Hong Kong (HKU), committing both parties to practical cooperation in areas such as regional development, think tank development, talent cultivation, technology transfer, and international communication.

Fu witnessed the signing of the memorandum, saying that both parties share broad space for cooperation in multiple fields. He expressed hope that the signing will serve as a new starting point for creating a new chapter in their exchanges.

HKU President Zhang Xiang expressed his anticipation for HKU and Xinhua to leverage each other’s strengths to forge a long-term and close partnership.

On Friday, Xinhua Publishing House and Sino United Publishing (Holdings) Limited signed a strategic cooperation agreement. During a meeting on Friday morning with Xu Zhengzhong, chairman of Bauhinia Culture Group, Fu expressed hope for comprehensive cooperation to jointly publish and distribute key books in Traditional Chinese. He emphasized creating quality publications aligned with national strategies and Hong Kong’s positioning while exploring new avenues for integrated development in publishing.

Xu expressed hope for closer cooperation with Xinhua to promote the development of Hong Kong’s cultural sector and to tell good stories of China.

Also on Friday, Fu met with Li Dahong, chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists and chairman of the Hong Kong Ta Kung Wen Wei Media Group, and held discussions with representatives from the federation.

Fu expressed Xinhua’s willingness to work alongside the Hong Kong press in areas such as joint interviews, media integration, international communication and talent training. He stressed the importance of utilizing their respective advantages and deepening cooperation to create a favorable public opinion environment for the solid and sustained progress of the “one country, two systems.”

Li said that the Hong Kong Federation of Journalists has remained committed to its founding principle of love for the country and love for Hong Kong, expecting further cooperation with Xinhua to make efforts on implementing the “one country, two systems.” ■
