Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Baku on Sunday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening Pakistan-Azerbaijan ties, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said. He was received by senior Azerbaijani officials upon landing at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, according to the PMO.

During his visit, he is scheduled to meet Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and other top officials to discuss expanding bilateral trade, investment, energy cooperation, defence collaboration, and cultural exchanges. The leaders will also explore joint efforts on climate change.

“The discussions will focus on further strengthening bilateral relations, expanding trade and investment, enhancing cooperation in the energy sector, synergising efforts to deal with climate change, deepening defence collaboration, and fostering cultural exchanges,” the PMO said.

Multiple agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit.

As part of his engagements, Shehbaz and Azerbaijani leaders will address the Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum on Monday. The forum will bring together business leaders from both nations to explore trade opportunities and joint ventures, with an emphasis on business-to-business collaboration.

The PM is accompanied by a high-level ministerial delegation, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Investment and Privatisation Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Overseas Pakistanis Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the PM Syed Tariq Fatemi.
