US President Donald Trump confirmed on Thursday that he plans to visit Saudi Arabia in the next month and a half, following an agreement with Riyadh to invest $1 trillion in American companies.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump explained that the Saudi government had agreed to spend the large sum over a four-year period, primarily on military equipment and other investments in US businesses.

“I said, I’ll go if you pay $1 trillion to American companies… and they’ve agreed to do that,” Trump said. He went on to emphasise his strong relationship with Saudi Arabia, describing it as “great” and noting that the country had been “very nice.”

Trump recalled that during his first term, Saudi Arabia had already committed $450 billion to US companies, noting that the Kingdom’s wealth has grown, alongside his own administration’s positive relationship with Riyadh.

This visit comes as the US and Saudi Arabia continue to strengthen their economic ties, with significant investments in defence and other sectors.

In addition to the investment deal, Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host a meeting between US and Ukrainian officials next week to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Trump also hinted at a potential decision on the temporary legal status of over 200,000 Ukrainians in the US, stating that a decision would be made “pretty soon.”

The US-Saudi investment deal is expected to continue bolstering economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in defence and military equipment sectors.
