RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has filed a corruption reference worth Rs998.86 million against the widow of former Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) divisional vice president Haji Gulzar Awan.

The late PPP leader, who passed away four years ago, had earlier founded the Pakistan Aman Party, which was later merged into PPP.

NAB has accused his widow, Azra Gulzar Awan, of being involved in a housing scheme scam alongside her late husband.

According to the investigation, the couple lured citizens into purchasing low-cost plots in two housing societies, allegedly pocketing millions in the process.

Several complainants, including Amir Mukhtan and others, filed petitions against them, prompting NAB to take action.

The corruption reference was filed in an accountability court in Rawalpindi, and scrutiny is set for Monday.

Following this, the case will be presented before Judge Muhammad Akmal Khan, and summons are expected to be issued.

Azra Gulzar Awan, however, has denied the allegations, claiming she had no involvement in her husband’s business dealings.

“I am a housewife. I never interfered in my husband’s business, nor did I visit any office or deal with land transactions. I am being falsely implicated,” she stated. She also questioned the timing of the case, pointing out that years have passed since her husband’s death, and only now has this alleged corruption come to light.
