The operational control of the Green Line and Orange Line bus services has officially been handed over to the Sindh government.

A ceremony to transfer the operational command and control of the Green Line and Orange Line bus services was held at the Operational Command and Control Center in Garden, Karachi. CEO of PIDCL, Wasim Bajwa, handed over the control to Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Express News reported.

The event was attended by the MD of Sindh Mass Transit Authority, Kamal Dayo, along with officials from the Orange Line and Green Line BRT systems.

During the occasion, Sindh’s Senior Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, addressed the gathering and stated that the transfer of the Green Line and Orange Line to the Sindh government is an important step towards further organizing the public transport network.

The Sindh government is committed to improving and ensuring the sustainability of the bus services in order to provide the best travel facilities to citizens. “We will work on enhancing the performance of the bus services through the use of modern technology and regular maintenance,” he added.

Sharjeel Memon further mentioned that a comprehensive and efficient urban transit system is being developed for Karachi. Work is ongoing on plans to connect both BRT lines with other public transport systems.

Last week, the Sindh Mass Transit Authority Board approved taking over the control of the Green Line and Orange Line BRT in its 14th meeting, chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

Discussions were held on sending the documents related to the Green Line and Orange Line BRT agreements to the Law Department for legal validation. It was approved to retain the existing human resource structure of the Green and Orange Line BRT for three months.

Meanwhile, the Sindh government has announced an extension in Peoples Bus Service operating hours during Ramadan, with buses running until 1 AM from the 15th of the holy month.

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the extended hours would apply to key routes, including R1, R2, R3, R4, R9, R10, and EV1.

He noted that the decision was taken to address the needs of Karachi residents who rely on public transport.
