The Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of the Karachi Police on Thursday arrested Kamran Asghar Qureshi, the father of Armaghan Qureshi in drug trafficking case.

SSP AVCC Anil Haider Minhas confirmed that Kamran Qureshi was apprehended from a bungalow located in Defence Phase 5, Khayaban-e-Momin.

During the raid, the authorities seized 200 grams of crystal meth (ice) and a 9mm pistol, along with two magazines and 10 rounds of ammunition from the arrested suspect’s possession.

Accoridng to police, Kamran Asghar Qureshi has been booked under the Control of Narcotics Substances Act and for possessing an unlicensed weapon.

Mustafa Amir, 23, went missing from Karachi’s DHA on January 6, 2023. His body was discovered 39 days later in Balochistan, confirming that he had been murdered.

Armaghan Qureshi, an acquaintance of Mustafa, was arrested on February 8 after a four-hour standoff with the police, during which he fired on officers, injuring a DSP and a constable.

The investigation revealed that both Mustafa and Armaghan were involved in drug-related activities, particularly in cannabis trade. Armaghan, a known drug user, had a history of criminal involvement, including a case in 2019 related to drug importation.

Prior to the murder, Armaghan and Mustafa had a personal dispute that escalated into violence. Armaghan invited Mustafa to his bungalow to consume drugs together, where he assaulted Mustafa with an iron rod and later bound him before dragging him down the stairs.

Afterward, Armaghan and his accomplice, Shiraz, disposed of Mustafa’s body in a car, setting it on fire in Hub. The investigation also uncovered Armaghan’s attempt to cover up the crime, instructing his employees to clean the bloodstains and taking Mustafa’s belongings, including his mobile phone.

The mother of Mustafa Amir, has made startling revelations regarding the disposal of her son’s body. Wajiha Amir claimed that Armaghan had informed his father, Kamran Qureshi, about the incident.

However, instead of taking responsible action, Kamran allegedly advised his son to flee. She questioned, “Why is Kamran Qureshi not being questioned? He should be included in the investigation too.”

The case also raised concerns about the involvement of law enforcement, with Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Nadeem of the Gizri police under scrutiny for his communication with Armaghan during the investigation.

Although Nadeem claimed it was for official purposes, suspicions arose about possible obstruction of justice. Three police officers were suspended for mishandling the case.

Moreover, the Sindh High Court (SHC) ruled that certain decisions in the case, including Armaghan’s judicial remand and the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT), were unlawful, leading to further complications in the investigation.
