Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, stated on Thursday that the government would not object if the courts decide to release incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

The statement comes as PTI prepares for a nationwide protest campaign after Eidul Fitr, aiming to challenge what it calls a “stolen mandate” and push for the rule of law, constitutional supremacy, and the release of political prisoners.

Adding to the political pressure, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also announced that his party is planning to protest against the federal government’s policies after Eid, aligning with PTI’s agenda.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Sanaullah highlighted that Khan remains in jail due to convictions in multiple cases.

The former prime minister has been behind bars since August 2023, facing several charges ranging from corruption to terrorism following his ouster through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.

Commenting on the recent in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Sanaullah stated that Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was urged to enhance police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) capabilities in response to increasing terrorist activities.

The high-level meeting, convened by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressed the deteriorating security situation, particularly in K-P and Balochistan.

While PTI’s parliamentary leadership, including Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, skipped the session, the K-P chief minister attended as the province’s representative.
