Karachi witnessed chaotic scenes on Sunday as a protest near the Karachi Press Club triggered a massive traffic jam in the area, leaving commuters stranded for hours.

Long queues of vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, were seen stretching across key areas such as Empress Market, Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and Club Road. Many residents were forced to break their fasts on the road with limited food and water, highlighting the severe impact of the disruption.

Authorities responded by closing several major routes around the Karachi Press Club, including Din Muhammad Wafai Road to MR Kiani Chowrangi and Fawara Chowk, which only worsened the congestion.

Citizens took to social media to voice their frustration, calling on city officials to better manage such situations in the future and ensure alternative routes are clearly communicated.

Section 144 imposed in Karachi

The Karachi commissioner imposed Section 144 across Karachi on Monday, banning gatherings of more than five people amid concerns over potential protests.

The restriction aims to address concerns over public safety and maintain order amid potential disruptions. Officials have warned that violators will face legal action under the relevant provisions.

As a precaution, all roads surrounding the Karachi Press Club were sealed off with parked vehicles shortly after the notification was released, causing severe traffic congestion in the area.
