ISLAMABAD/ RAWALPINDI:

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub has said that the incarcerated PTI founder, Imran Khan, neither seeks a deal nor accepts any leniency, declaring him and other detained PTI leaders as political prisoners.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad on Monday, he said that the PTI leadership, including the jailed party founder, is being detained on political grounds. “Even biscuit theft cases have been filed against me,” he said.

“We are part of the state, but the definition of ‘state’ being promoted by the current rulers is altogether different,” he lamented.

He criticised what he described as the distorted understanding of statehood, urging opponents to read the constitution to understand the concept of the state. “Pakistan is not a hard state because there is no rule of law here. The law of the jungle prevails.”

Omar Ayub stressed that Imran Khan neither seeks nor accepts a deal or concession. He also denounced the politicisation of the jailed leader’s sisters, saying they engage only in familial visits, not political activity.

Dismissing rumours of his resignation, the opposition leader asserted, “A politician must always be prepared for elections and death”.

Meanwhile, senior PTI leaders have submitted two separate lists of visitors –one for legal representatives and one for family members – to Adiala Jail authorities ahead of a scheduled meeting with Imran.

According to party spokesperson Niazullah Niazi, the lists include 12 names in total: six legal representatives and six family members.

The legal team’s list was faxed by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, while the family members’ list was sent by PTI Secretary-General Salman Akram Raja.
