MIRANSHAH:

At least 15 people, including children, were injured in an alleged quad-copter attack near a volleyball ground in the Azam Warsak area of South Waziristan’s Birmil Tehsil, hospital sources said on Tuesday.

All the victims were taken to the District Headquarters Hospital in Wana, where four of them were said to be in critical condition. Hospital officials have appealed for blood donations amid the emergency.

Zubair Khan, a member of the National Assembly from South Waziristan tribal district, condemned the strike, calling it a “brutal and inhumane act.” “There is no justification for targeting unarmed civilians,” he said in a statement, demanding accountability for the incident.

This marks the second such incident in the region in the past fortnight.

On May 20, a quad-copter dropped explosives on a house in the Hormuz area of the Mir Ali tehsil of neighbouring North Waziristan district, resulting in the deaths of four children from the same family and critically injuring their mother, along with several other women.

The attack sparked widespread outrage among local tribesmen and activists who condemned it as a gross violation of human rights, leading to a week-long protest during which they blocked all entry and exit points to the tribal district.
