QUETTA:

A senior district administration official was martyred while resisting a terrorist attack in Surab district of Balochistan on Friday, the provincial government spokesperson has confirmed.

A group of 20 to 30 heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated assault targeting a local bank and the residences of senior government officials in Surab Bazaar, Shahid Rind said in a statement.

During the attack, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Hidayat Baloch Buledi stood his ground to protect others, ultimately sacrificing his life in the line of duty.

“He [Buledi] demonstrated extraordinary bravery and set a remarkable example of courage by confronting the attackers despite the imminent danger to himself and his family,” Rind said, adding, “Women and children were present inside the ADC’s residence at the time, highlighting the gravity and selflessness of Buledi’s actions.”

The government spokesperson described the assault as part of a broader, orchestrated attempt to undermine security in the region. “This was not an isolated act of violence. It was a deliberate operation carried out by proxies with backing from foreign elements, particularly Indian intelligence,” Rind said.

Security forces, including personnel from the Frontier Corps, local police, and Levies, launched a joint clearance operation to neutralise the threat and secure the city.

The spokesperson said that the provincial government remains resolute in the fight against terrorism. “Our commitment to peace and stability is unwavering. Those responsible for this act will be tracked down and brought to justice. Search and clearance operations are currently underway, and every anti-state element will be dealt with firmly,” he added.

A day earlier, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir spoke about the situation in Balochistan where Baloch groups, officially dubbed Fitna al Hindustan, have unleashed a wave of terror. The terrorist elements active in Balochistan are proxies acting on behalf of foreign interests, particularly India, he said. “These terrorists are not Baloch. They are agents of disruption sponsored by India.”

The field marshal also called for reinforcing national unity, stressing the importance of institutional integrity and constitutional governance. “We must build a strong Pakistan where all institutions function according to law, without political pressure, and for the welfare of the people,” he said and urged rejection of any narrative aimed at weakening the state.
