RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s incarcerated founder Imran Khan has refused a polygraph test (lie detector test) requested by the Lahore police investigation for the fourth time, delaying progress in the probe into the May 9 riots case.

A police investigation team, headed by DSP Asif Javed from Lahore, arrived at Adiala Jail on Monday to conduct a polygraph test, photogrammetric test, and voice matching test in connection with 11 cases registered in Lahore related to the events of May 9.

Members of the Punjab Forensic Unit were also part of the team, which included Inspectors Muhammad Aslam, Tasaduq, Saleem, and Naveed, along with technical expert Abid Ayub.

The jail administration informed the PTI founder, but he refused to participate in the investigation. Sources said Imran was informed that the investigation team had arrived with a court order. Nevertheless, he again refused to undergo the tests.

Sources added that previously, Imran had set the condition that he would only cooperate and undergo tests in the presence of his lawyers.

However, when the investigative team returned with his legal team, he submitted a written statement informing them that Article 13 of the Constitution protects him from being compelled to participate in an investigation or undergo tests that might produce evidence against him.

Sources further stated that this was the fourth time the PTI founder had refused to take the tests. The investigation cannot move forward unless the tests are conducted, as they are necessary to determine whether the allegations against him are accurate.

Despite his refusal, the Lahore-based investigation team waited for four hours, but the PTI founder did not agree to the tests. Eventually, the investigation team returned to Lahore.
