BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) — China’s education authority and universities have taken various measures to support the employment of this year’s college graduates.

In March, the Ministry of Education launched a special campaign to encourage college graduates to actively pursue job opportunities, aiming to accelerate the employment process.

In April, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued a circular on expanding employment opportunities through multiple channels, such as increasing market-driven job creation and stabilizing public-sector employment.

It encourages organizations and enterprises to hire this year’s graduates as well as unemployed youths who graduated in previous years.

In late May, a meeting on advancing the implementation of employment policies for college graduates was held, emphasizing the need to enhance the effectiveness of various job promotion measures, with key initiatives including increasing recruitment positions in state-owned enterprises and fostering collaboration between economically developed localities and universities to enhance job opportunities.

Into this year, the Ministry of Education has worked with major economically developed regions and those with large employment demands, collaborating with authorities of relevant industrial sectors and local governments to host 12 regional job fairs, offering over 350,000 positions.

The ministry also encouraged university presidents and Party chiefs to visit businesses to explore employment opportunities. As of June 6, over 4.7 million graduate job openings had been created through such visits.

Moreover, the education ministry launched a program to enhance the work capabilities of college students, with a focus on expanding knowledge and skills needed in emerging industries. The initiative saw the opening of 1,000 short-term courses and 1,000 vocational training programs nationwide for relevant groups.

It also urges special support to ensure employment for graduates facing difficulties.

Official data shows that the number of college graduates in China is likely to reach 12.22 million in 2025, an increase of 430,000 from last year.  ■
