Govt ‘completely non-serious’ on 27th Amendment, new provinces: Rana Sanaullah

Federal Minister and Adviser to the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah Khan has dismissed reports about the proposed 27th Amendment and creation of new provinces, terming them mere “gossip.”

Speaking to the media in Lahore on Saturday, he said such matters usually surface in the media only “when there is a lack of real news.”

The minister noted that the nomination papers of PTI candidates had been accepted without objections, adding that parliament would make its decision on September 9.

Referring to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s speech at Minar-e-Pakistan two years ago, he said Nawaz had urged all institutions to sit together to steer the country out of crisis. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, he added, had expanded this vision under the initiative “Istekham-e-Pakistan,” which seeks political and economic stability through consensus.

Commenting on journalist Sohail Warraich’s column from Brussels during the army chief’s visit, Rana Sana said the matter was exaggerated through vlogs and podcasts. He ruled out any legal action against Warraich.

The minister further stated that arrests and court rulings had nothing to do with political dialogue. “Courts have the authority to decide and PTI has the right to appeal. Criticism, however, should remain within constitutional limits,” he said.

Recalling the May 9 incidents, Rana Sana alleged that PTI leaders had “brainwashed” workers and directed them to specific sites, portraying Imran Khan as a “red line.”

On a question regarding facilities for the PTI founder in prison, he remarked that the government had no objection if Imran Khan was provided “two air-conditioners or meals from a five-star hotel.”
