ISLAMABAD:

Pakistani and Iranian army chiefs reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating terrorism and strengthening border security, according to a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday.

In a phone conversation, Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, and his Iranian counterpart, Major Gen Abdolrahim Mousavi, discussed bilateral cooperation in an array of fields. The Iranian military chief also praised Pakistan’s support for his country during its 12-day war with Israel.

The conversation between the two army chiefs came weeks after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Islamabad. The two neighbours agreed earlier this month to protect their shared border by effectively combating terrorism.

Maj Gen Mousavi, according to the Iran’s state-run Irna news agency, said that Iran was prepared to eradicate terrorism and secure its borders with Pakistan. He called for joint efforts to eliminate terrorism.

While expressing sympathy with the flood-affected people in Pakistan, according to Iran’s Press TV, the top Iranian general stated, “Iran would proudly provide any assistance within its power to dear brothers in Pakistan.”

Mousavi also expressed satisfaction over bilateral ties, saying both Iran and Pakistan have been interacting and cooperating at various levels. He particularly commended Pakistan’s stance and support for Iran during the 12-day Israeli-imposed war.

Echoing the call for securing common borders, Filed Marshal Munir said that the two countries must “jointly turn the Pakistan-Iran border into a border of friendship, brotherhood, and economic development.”

Field Marshal Munir expressed his gratitude for Mousavi’s sympathy for the Pakistani nation and expressed his condolences for the families of the victims of the recent terrorist attack in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province.
