A three-storey garment factory collapsed during efforts to extinguish a massive fire in Karachi’s New Karachi industrial area on Tuesday, leaving five people, including rescue workers and a cameraman, injured, officials said.

The blaze broke out around 6am. in a factory located in Sector 8A, near Sadaat Hotel. Two fire engines reached the site soon after the fire was reported, and more units were called in as the flames intensified.

A Fire Brigade spokesperson said the blaze was of high intensity and that 10 fire tenders and a snorkel were engaged in efforts to bring it under control using water and foam. Officials confirmed no one was trapped inside the building.

Rescue 1122 identified the injured as Ismile (50), Buland (30), Aslam (30) and Owais (35). All were admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors described their condition as stable.

The fire originated on the ground floor and spread rapidly, causing severe damage before the factory collapsed. Firefighting operations continued late into the day.
