President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the principles of peace and justice.

In separate messages issued on the International Day of Peace, observed on Sunday (today), they urged the international community to prioritise dialogue, cooperation and development over confrontation.

President Zardari said Pakistan is ready to play a positive role in establishing a peaceful, just and sustainable world, adding that the country’s contribution to global and regional peace and stability is acknowledged internationally.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the grave humanitarian tragedies unfolding in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the occupied Palestinian territories.

He stressed that lasting peace will remain an elusive dream until the people of these regions are granted their right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

The Prime Minister said Pakistan stands ready to play its role and called on the international community to join hands in the struggle for peace, justice and humanity.

Earlier on Friday, Pakistan again pressed the UNSC to demand an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Addressing the Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmed reaffirmed Islamabad’s “unwavering support” for the Palestinian right to self-determination and urged an end to Israeli military operations.

He said Pakistan “stands with humanity, justice and international law,” noting that Gaza’s civilians remain under relentless bombardment and blockade, with children starving, hospitals destroyed and families lacking food, medicine and shelter.

Ahmed stressed that Pakistan stands with the majority of Council members and the broader UN membership in reflecting the expectations of the international community for an urgent halt to the fighting.
