U.S. must win AI race with China so the future is built on American tech

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says he’s optimistic that the United States and China can work through trade and technology disputes. It’s important to keep America at the forefront of the generative AI boom. “AI is going to be foundational and transformative to every single country. President Trump wants America to win the AI race,” Jensen continued, “So, the question is how to do that? How to ensure that American companies have all the best Nvidia technology and the best chip technology. … On the other hand, understanding that in order to succeed at AI, we really want the world to build on the American tech stack. Just as we want the world to be built on the American dollar, we would like the world to be built on the American tech stack, including developers in China.” This American tech stack Jensen talks about includes more than just Nvidia chips. He cited tech from fellow Club holdings Amazon , Microsoft , and Apple . “We want the whole world to be building on Windows. We want the whole world building on [Amazon Web Services] and Apple.” Jensen’s remarks on Tuesday come just two months after Nvidia and fellow chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices agreed to give 15% of their revenue from their sales in China to the U.S. government. The two companies will, in turn, receive proper export licensing to sell certain AI chips, including Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 chips in China, the Financial Times reported in August. It also comes amid the United States and China’s continued trade negotiations after President Donald Trump extended his tariff deadline on the world’s second-largest economy by 90 days back in August. To be sure, Jensen said that if the White House cracks down further on chip exports in China, it would not bode well for U.S. firms. “A complete ban is not good for American companies long term. … It might hurt Chinese companies, but it hurts American companies worse long term.” As far as investors are concerned, Nvidia’s financials should be fine regardless though. China is an important market but management’s guidance – which came in above analysts’ expectations last quarter — excludes sales to the country altogether. “All of our guidance assumes China [is] zero,” Jensen said. “So, if anything works out with China, it will be a bonus for us.” Nvidia stock was up slightly Tuesday despite an unconfirmed report that Oracle has struggled to make money from renting the company’s chips. Shares of the AI chipmaker have been on a tear in 2025, up 38% year-to-date. In fact, Nvidia stock last hit a record high as recently as Thursday. Jensen addressed the Oracle report in his interview with Jim, saying the company will be very profitable over the lifespan with its Nvidia systems. He also talked about Nvidia’s key partnerships with Intel , OpenAI, and CoreWeave . (Jim Cramer’s Charitable Trust is long NVDA, AMZN, MSFT, AAPL. See here for a full list of the stocks.)
