PESHAWAR:

With confirmation from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor House acknowledging Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation, all speculation and uncertainty surrounding the province’s highest office has come to an end.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor’s House spokesperson confirmed that the handwritten resignation was received by the Governor’s House at 2:30pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi stated that the resignation will be reviewed in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan and relevant legal procedures. He noted that any action taken will strictly follow constitutional protocols.

“The Governor’s House will proceed with the matter in a transparent and organized manner, ensuring all legal and constitutional requirements are fully observed,” the Governor Kundi said in a post on X.

Today at 2:30 pm, the handwritten resignation advice of the CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was duly received and acknowledged by Governor House.

Sources indicate that initial legal formalities concerning the resignation have already been completed. However, Governor Kundi has decided to seek a final legal opinion on the matter on Monday, due to the unavailability of the legal team on Sunday — a weekly public holiday.

Governor is expected to consult with his legal advisors as soon as the new week begins. The discussions will focus on the constitutional implications of the resignation, potential legal complexities, and the furture’s line of action.

Sources also revealed that Governor Kundi intends to personally review all related legal documents and seek comprehensive legal advice before making any final decision.

Interestingly, it has emerged that this is not the first time the chief minister attempted to resign in last couple of days. A previous typed resignation was reportedly sent on October 8, but according to sources, that document has mysteriously gone missing.

Earlier, the formation of a new provincial government in K-P has hit a major snag as the resignation of outgoing Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur had reportedly gone “missing”, delaying the oath-taking of CM-designate Sohail Afridi.

Confusion surrounds the resignation, with conflicting claims over whether it was submitted or received. Sources in the Governor’s House said that no official resignation had been received, while political circles insisted that Gandapur had already stepped down.

The uncertainty has thrown the transfer of power into disarray and sparked fears of a potential constitutional crisis in the province.

Officials at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said that Gandapur’s resignation had been delivered to the Governor House on Wednesday night, the same day he was asked to vacate the post.

However, K-P Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, who was in Islamabad, and other officials at the Governor’s Secretariat remained tight-lipped about the issue.

An official on Kundi’s staff said they had yet to receive the resignation letter. “As far as I know, the resignation has not yet reached the Governor’s Office,” the official said, adding that the governor would sign it whenever he received it.
