The Sindh government has imposed a one-month ban on protests, demonstrations, sit-ins and rallies across the province. Taking into account the law and order situation, authorities have invoked Section 144, prohibiting gatherings of more than five people.

The decision was taken on the recommendation of Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, who, based on reports from various police ranges and zones, advised that immediate measures were required to maintain public order.

According to the official notification, the ban will be enforced immediately across the province and will remain in place for one month. It states that any breach of the order by an individual or group will give the relevant Station House Officer (SHO) the authority to register a case under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The Sindh government said the move aims to ensure public safety and maintain law and order, preventing any untoward incidents.

This announcement comes three days after Section 144 was imposed in Rawalpindi ahead of the “Ya Aqsa Million March”, called by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.

The protest in Rawalpindi brought major arteries to a standstill, including Murree Road from Faizabad to Murree Chowk, and link roads such as Sir Syed Road, Moti Mahal, Liaqat Road, Committee Chowk, Waris Khan, Rehmanabad and Shamsabad.

Trucks and barriers blocked both main and minor streets. Schools, colleges, universities, wholesale markets, transport hubs and goods transport services were shut, leaving the city’s commercial and social life at a halt.
