Security across Turbat city was further tightened to prevent any possible follow-up attacks

QUETTA:

The Kech Deputy Commissioner Basheer Ahmed Bareech narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Monday when a motorcycle-borne explosive device detonated near his convoy in Turbat, injuring ten people, including nine Levies personnel.

Separately, an attack on a police station in the Bhag Nari area of Kachhi district left the station house officer (SHO) martyred and two policemen injured, officials confirmed on Monday.

The explosion in Turbat took place near the tehsildar’s office as the deputy commissioner was on his way back to his office.

The motorcycle packed with explosives was detonated remotely, striking close to his vehicle. The powerful blast caused panic among nearby residents and passersby.

DC Basheer Ahmed Bareech remained unharmed, while the injured were swiftly taken to Turbat Civil Hospital for medical treatment.

Hospital authorities later confirmed that most of the victims were Levies personnel and that their condition was stable.

In the aftermath of the explosion, law enforcement agencies (LEAs) cordoned off the area and launched a large-scale search operation to track down those responsible. Security across Turbat city was further tightened to prevent any possible follow-up attacks.

Meanwhile, unidentified armed men targeted the Bhag Police Station with hand grenades and gunfire in the Bhag Nari area of Kachhi district.

According to security sources, SHO Bhag Nari Inspector Lutf Ali Khosa, who was originally from Sohbatpur district, lost his life during the exchange of fire.

Police officials said the security personnel on duty retaliated effectively, resulting in the death of one of the attackers.

The other suspects managed to escape after the brief but intense gun battle. The injured policemen were shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors described their condition as stable.

Following the attack, police and other LEAs cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to track down the culprits behind the assault. Authorities said an investigation had been initiated to determine the motive and identity of those involved.

The incidents add to a series of recent attacks targeting the LEAs in Balochistan, raising concerns about the security situation in the province.
