The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency has announced that vehicles without “Green Stickers” will be banned from the roads after November 15.

Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), said exhaust testing has been made mandatory for all vehicles in Lahore. As part of the EPA, a strict crackdown on vehicles causing air pollution in the city.

“From November 15, any vehicle found on the road without an Exhaust Testing System (ETS) certificate or a green sticker will be impounded”, Dr Sheikh warned. “Only vehicles meeting Punjab’s environmental standards will be permitted to operate on the roads”.

The EPA has reminded motorists that both emissions and noise testing are compulsory.

Punjab EPA Director said the emission testing system was formally launched in July 2024 to regulate vehicular pollution ahead of the smog season. He said vehicles manufactured between 2010 and 2015 are being targeted in the first phase of enforcement.

The previous deadline for vehicles operating without a green sticker had been August 31.

A zero-tolerance policy has been introduced against vehicles harmful to the environment, Dr Sheikh added. Vehicles not verified through the ETS will face legal action and confiscation.

The EPA said it had begun its toughest anti-pollution campaign to date in Lahore, urging citizens to have their vehicles tested immediately or risk seizure.
