Adiala jail authorties say Imran X account being operated from outside

Report further states that no prohibited items, including mobile phones, are permitted under jail rules

The superintendent of Adiala Jail has told the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the social media account of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder is not being operated from inside the prison, insisting that it is being run from outside.

The submission was made in a written report submitted in response to a petition seeking the suspension of the PTI founder’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

In his reply, the superintendent categorically denied any possibility of the account being operated from the facility, reiterating that no prohibited device — including mobile phones — is allowed under jail rules.

He added that mobile-signal jammers have been installed throughout Adiala Jail, cutting off coverage inside the prison and in surrounding areas while adding that the former prime minister has no access to a mobile phone or the internet while in custody.

The response also cites Jail Rule 265, which bars the PTI founder from engaging in political discussions during incarceration.

The superintendent claimed that family members and lawyers, during meetings permitted under court orders or jail regulations, have “engaged in political discussions” in violation of the rules. Such interactions, he added, have previously resulted in instructions being relayed outside the facility, allegedly contributing to “public unrest and incitement.”

According to the report, the PTI founder remains under strict surveillance, and both he and the staff assigned to him are subject to continuous searches to ensure compliance with prison protocols.

The IHC is expected to take up the matter in upcoming hearings.
