President, PM, chief ministers issue messages on International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian People

People wave Palestinian flags during a protest after British lawmakers voted to ban pro-Palestinian campaign group Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, outside Downing Street in London, Britain, July 2, 2025.

Political figures across Pakistan reaffirmed the country’s support for the Palestinian cause on Saturday as the nation observed International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. They called for immediate international action to implement a two-state solution and ensure justice for Palestinians.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led the messages of support, with the president stating that Pakistan’s backing for the Palestinian cause is rooted in universal values of human dignity, fairness and justice.

“Pakistan has consistently condemned the atrocities of Israeli occupying forces in Gaza and has raised its voice for the Palestinians at every forum,” President Zardari said, pledging to continue extending political, diplomatic, humanitarian and moral support to Palestinians.

PM Shehbaz said the Palestinian people have endured one of the most devastating tragedies of our times, adding that their courage is a testament to the indomitable human spirit. “Pakistan remains firmly committed to a just, lasting, and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian question, based on relevant UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions,” he stated.

PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stressed that it has become imperative for the international community to take decisive steps for implementing the two-state solution and to transform the recent Gaza ceasefire into sustainable peace.

“The tribulations facing Palestine are deep wounds on the collective conscience of humanity,” Bilawal said, adding that the loss of every innocent life and destruction of every home during the ongoing occupation is a call to the world to play its role with moral courage and justice.

He added that his party will continue to raise its voice for the Palestinians’ inalienable right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Highlighting the humanitarian crisis, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that Palestinian citizens do not even have access to basic human rights such as food, medical treatment, clean water, housing and safety.

She called for immediate steps to ensure sustainable peace and justice for the Palestinian people, urging the international community to fulfill its responsibilities under international law.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said Palestinians are fighting a war for the defense of their land while the usurping Israeli state is committing crimes against humanity.

CM Murad emphasised that Israeli atrocities continue despite the ceasefire agreement and called on mediators to play their role. “The international world cannot ignore Israeli crimes against Palestine,” he said, urging the UN to take measures to stop the genocide.

Speaker Sindh Assembly Syed Owais Qadir Shah stated that the assembly expresses solidarity with the Palestinian people, noting that Pakistan-Palestine relations are part of the country’s faith and principles. “We hold a clear position in support of an independent Palestinian state according to pre-1967 borders,” he said, calling for continued condemnation of Israeli atrocities on every global forum.

He praised the steadfastness and bravery of the Palestinian people as an example for the entire world, assuring that diplomatic, moral and political support for the oppressed Palestinian people will continue.

The messages came as Pakistan joined the international community in observing the UN-designated day, with political leaders across the spectrum emphasising the country’s unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination and statehood.
