Former prime minister Imran Khan’s advisor on interior and accountability, Mirza Shehzad Akbar, has been declared a proclaimed offender, Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Abbas Shah has announced. The judge has also ordered Akbar’s arrest.

Despite being summoned multiple times, Akbar has reportedly failed to appear before court. The case against him was filed on the basis of allegedly controversial statements posted on X (formerly Twitter). The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered a case against Akbar in July, 2025, regarding this.

The challan against him has also been submitted in court.

Akbar, who had also remained Asset Recovery Unit chief, currently resides in the United Kingdom. On Thursday, the Government of Pakistan submitted Akbar’s extradition documents to the British High Commissioner, requesting his immediate return.

Alongside Akbar, the government has also requested the return of Adil Raja, a former Pakistan Army officer who is accused of anti-state propaganda.

In July this year, the former special assistant was also named a central figure in the ongoing £190 million reference case involving the now-incarcerated Khan and businessman Malik Riaz.
