FO slams Jaishankar’s ‘baseless, irresponsible’ comments about Pakistan Army

Says minister’s comment was an attempt to malign Pakistan and divert attention from India’s own regional conduct

The Foreign Office categorically rejected recent remarks by India’s External Affairs Minister targeting the Pakistan Army, calling the comments “highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible.”

The response came a day after Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, while addressing a public forum in New Delhi, accused the Pakistan military, saying that “much of our problems emanate from the Pakistani Army.”

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan views the Indian minister’s assertions as an attempt to malign the country and divert attention from India’s own regional conduct.

“Pakistan categorically rejects and condemns the highly inflammatory, baseless and irresponsible comments made by the Indian External Affairs Minister in his recent statement,” the press release said.

Andrabi maintained that Pakistani institutions, including its armed forces, have repeatedly shown professionalism and a commitment to national security. “Pakistan is a responsible state and its all institutions, including armed forces, are a pillar of national security, dedicated to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country,” he said.

Referring to the May 2025 conflict, he added that it “vividly demonstrated Pakistan armed forces’ professionalism as well as their resolve to defend the motherland and the people of Pakistan against any Indian aggression in a befitting, effective yet responsible manner.”

He stressed that “No amount of propaganda can belie this truth.”

The spokesperson accused the Indian government of running a targeted smear campaign to deflect attention from what Pakistan describes as India’s own destabilizing role. “The attempts by Indian leadership to defame Pakistan’s state institutions and its leadership are a part of propaganda campaign designed to distract the attention from India’s destabilizing actions in the region and beyond as well as State-sponsored terrorism in Pakistan,” the statement said.

He cautioned that such “incendiary rhetoric only exemplifies the extent of India’s disregard for amity, peace and stability in our region.”

The statement also criticized India’s domestic political climate, urging New Delhi to address what Pakistan views as dangerous ideological trends. “Instead of making misleading remarks about the armed forces of Pakistan, India must investigate the fascist and revisionist Hindutva ideology that has unleashed a reign of mob justice, lynchings, arbitrary detentions and demolition of properties and places of worship,” Andrabi said, adding that the Indian state and its leadership “have become hostage to this terror in the name of religion.”

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the spokesperson said the country remained firm in defending its sovereignty. “Pakistan believes in co-existence, dialogue and diplomacy. However, it stands united and resolute in its intent and ability to safeguard its interests and sovereignty.”
