Emergency measures are underway, and authorities have launched a search operation in Mir Ali

NORTH WAZIRISTAN/
WAZIRISTAN:

In North Waziristan’s Mir Ali area, a government primary school was destroyed in an overnight explosion, affecting more than 600 students and disrupting education in the region.

In the Mir Ali tehsil of North Waziristan, unknown armed assailants blew up the Government Primary School in the Ayaz Kot area of village Khushhali late last night. The explosion destroyed a major portion of the school building.

According to government education department sources, more than 600 children were enrolled in the school, which was the only functioning primary institution in the area. Officials have sealed off damaged sections of the building and are considering alternative arrangements to continue education.

Local elders and parents expressed concern over the attack, emphasizing its impact on children’s education. One local elder said, ‘This school was the only beacon of hope for the children of the entire area. Its destruction has shocked all of us.’

Security officials said the area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway. No group has claimed responsibility. The district administration described the attack as an anti-education act, adding, ‘Such attacks hinder peace and development in the region, and those responsible will soon be brought to justice.’

Police sources said evidence has been collected, and the bomb disposal unit’s report is awaited to determine the type of explosive used. Initial findings indicate the blast may have been triggered by a remote-controlled or timed device.
