President, PM pay special homage to martyred major, say his sacrifice for country is a source of pride for the nation

A Major of Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom during an intelligence-based operation against terrorists in the general area of Khar, Bajaur district. The security forces killed five terrorists belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Khawarij, military’s media wing said on Monday.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted following reports of the presence of terrorists in the area.

The ISPR said that during an intense exchange of fire, Major Adeel Zaman (36), a resident of Dera Ismail Khan district, who was leading his troops from the front, fought gallantly and rendered the ultimate sacrifice, embracing shahadah.

On 29 December 2025, Security Forces conducted an intelligence-based operation in general area Khar, Bajaur District, on reported presence of Khawarij belonging to Indian Proxy, Fitna al Khawarij.

The statement added that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the killed Khawarij.
“Sanitisation operations are being carried out to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored Khawarij present in the area,” the ISPR said.

It further stated that the relentless counterterrorism campaign under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam — approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan — will continue with full force to eliminate the menace of foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to security forces for a successful intelligence-based operation against Indian proxy Fitna al Khawarij in Bajaur.

In separate statements, the president and the prime minister said the security forces were recording significant successes in eliminating Khawarij elements involved in terrorist activities. They paid special homage to Major Adeel Zaman, who embraced martyrdom during the operation, describing him as a brave son of the soil who laid down his life in the line of duty.

The president and prime minister extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the martyred officer, saying his courage and supreme sacrifice for the country were a source of pride for the entire nation. They reaffirmed their resolve to continue counterterrorism operations with full force and said the nation stood united with the security forces in the fight against terrorism.

Army officer laid to rest with full military honours

According to the ISPR, the funeral prayer of Major Adeel Zaman Shaheed were offered at Peshawar Garrison. Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, attended the funeral prayer, along with the interior minister, the commander of Peshawar Corps, senior military and civil officials, and members of the public.

Field Marshal Munir said the martyrs of the Pakistan Army were the pride of the nation and that their sacrifices would always be remembered. He prayed for the elevation of the fallen officer’s ranks in Jannah and for patience and strength for the bereaved family.

Major Adeel Zaman laid down his life in the line of duty while leading from the front, reaffirming that such sacrifices strengthen the nation’s resolve to eliminate terrorism.

“Pakistan Armed Forces remain resolute in their commitment to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country,” the statement said. Major Zaman will be laid to rest with full military honours in his native town of Dera Ismail Khan.

Later, the army chief visited CMH Peshawar to inquire about the health of officers and soldiers injured during the operation and lauded their courage and steadfastness.
