After years of reduced operations, PIA aims to reinstate robust connections between Pakistan, UK

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has confirmed the resumption of its Lahore to London flight service starting March 30, 2026, as part of its expanded operations to the United Kingdom. This move follows the recent announcement of increased flights to Manchester and the launch of services between Islamabad and London scheduled for March 29.

PIA’s spokesperson revealed that the airline will gradually increase its flight offerings to the UK, aiming to operate up to seven flights per week by the end of March. In response to high demand and numerous requests from both Pakistanis and expatriates in the UK, the airline has ramped up its services, with all flights currently operating at full capacity.

The resumption of flights between Lahore and London, as well as Islamabad and London, is part of PIA’s response to a surge in demand following an extended hiatus due to a ban. The ban was imposed in 2020, days after Pakistan launched an investigation into the validity of pilot licences issued in the country following a PIA plane crash that killed 97 people.

While flights from Pakistan to the UK were significantly reduced during the past few years, due to a combination of factors including the global pandemic and subsequent travel restrictions, the recent revival of these routes marks a key moment in the airline’s recovery efforts.

Starting March 30, PIA will operate weekly flights from Lahore to London, alongside thrice-weekly flights from Islamabad. The airline also plans to increase its frequency to other UK destinations in the future, aiming to surpass the 22 weekly services it once operated.

The spokesperson added that the airline’s decision to schedule the Lahore and Islamabad flight restarts on consecutive dates was driven by demand and PIA’s readiness to accommodate more passengers. With this expansion, the airline looks to solidify its position as a leading carrier on the Pakistan-UK route.
