The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Thursday recommended the permanent appointment of 11 additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC).

A press release issued by the Supreme Court said the JCP meeting was chaired by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, following which a communiqué was released outlining the decisions taken by the body.

It said the JCP recommended the confirmation of Additional Judge Hassan Nawaz Makhdoom, Justice Malik Waqar Haider Awan, Justice Sardar Akbar Ali, Justice Syed Ahsan Raza, Justice Malik Javid Iqbal Wains, Justice Muhammad Jawad Zafar, Justice Khalid Ishaq, Justice Malik Muhammad Awais Khalid, Justice Chaudhry Sultan Mahmood, Justice Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh and Justice Abher Gul Khan as permanent judges of the LHC.

The statement further said that Additional Judge Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan was not confirmed, while the tenure of Additional Judge Tariq Mahmood Bajwa was extended by six months.

The JCP has been actively confirming judges, reconstituting constitutional benches and granting extensions as the year begins. On Wednesday, the commission confirmed six additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) as permanent judges and also recommended six-month extensions for several additional judges.

Those confirmed as permanent PHC judges include Justices Muhammad Tariq Afridi, Abdul Fayaz, Salahuddin, Sadiq Ali, Syed Mudassar Ameer and Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah.

The commission also granted six-month extensions to four additional PHC judges — Justices Farah Jamshed, Inamullah Khan, Sabitullah Khan and Aurangzeb — according to the announcement issued after the meeting.

On Tuesday, the JCP recommended the confirmation of 10 additional judges of the Sindh High Court out of a total list of 12, while also approving six-month extensions for two additional judges.
